Upcycling Trainings
In 2020, we started offering upcycling trainings for beginners in our wood workshop in Al-Walajah. The trainings are open for adult participants of all ages on hand machines, such as the jigsaw, driller and sanding machine. The participants learn how to break down wooden pallets and clean them properly, before transforming them into a design through the correct and safe use of hand machines.
Usually, the trainings are conducted for groups of minimum five participants and consist of five sessions. By the end of the training, each participant will have worked on a piece that she/he can take back home.
From 2017 until 2019, we received upcycling trainings on heavy machines by trainer Alaa Hilu. We were able to gain a solid foundation in carpentry, which we continuously developed and enhanced through the practical use of the machines in our workshop. Some of us additionally participated in carpentry trainings in vocational centers to further develop our skills. This allowed us to realize the opening of our very own wood workshop and provide trainings on heavy machines.
Originating from our passion for voluntary work and our expertise in creating new beauty though up-cycling, we equipped one of the local schools in Beit Jala with furniture for their schoolyard. We used wooden pallets and tires to make benches and garbage baskets. Once the furniture was built, the school children helped us to color them. In the end, the schoolyard was colorful with beautiful furniture and big smiles on the children’s faces.
This experience inspired us to spread the idea of up-cycling among the younger generation, so we got in touch with universities and managed to attract students to our workshop. We support them with their university projects, while educating them about the concept of upcycling and environmental issues. Some of the students of Bethlehem University received a training at our workshop to make benches for a local center for people with disabilities.

In 2018, five women from our team travelled to Germany for an advocacy tour. There, we managed to meet several groups from different countries and conduct basic upcycling trainings. This in turn inspired us to elaborate upcycling trainings in Palestine and spread our knowledge to different communities in Palestine.
We provide upcycling trainings for women groups in different areas. Contact us to learn more!
