As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, the demand to return to our land arose. The need for us to actively contribute to providing for our families increased significantly, since many of our husbands were not able to work anymore. In order to do that, we implemented a permaculture project, in which we planted seeds and seedlings during the summer season for two main reasons: 1) being self-sustainable and providing food for the family; 2) sell some of the extra crops to support the family financially.

Locating seeds and seedlings in the middle of the pandemic was not easy and we spent more than a month trying to get some. Through this surfaced another need in the direction of self-sustainability: a permaculture training, in which we gain knowledge on how to grow, harvest and plant seeds for the years to come.

The first online permaculture training session took place in May 2020. During the training, we expressed our need to learn about certain agricultural issues, such as fighting agricultural pests and saving seeds for next seasons and the trainer built the training material accordingly.

Ten training sessions were held between June and September, two of which were held face to face. During the training, we acquired a lot of knowledge and got the chance to reconnect to our lands – or rather what is left of our original lands.
